Postgraduate Study


Each external funding body will have a separate application process and deadline to the University of Cambridge. Please make sure you research these carefully and contact them direct if you have any questions. 

A lot of external funders from around the world are partnered with the Cambridge Trust. You are able to find these funds listed in the Postgraduate Funding Search. The search has several filters (such as nationality, country of residence, qualification) so that you can find the funds that are best suited to you and your prospective course.

Multiple regions

Anglo-Jewish Association

They provide financial assistance to Jewish students who are starting degree-level study in the UK.

Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF)

They award PhD fellowships of 2 to 3.5 years to outstanding junior scientists worldwide who wish to pursue an ambitious PhD project in basic biomedical research in an internationally leading laboratory.

British Federation of Women Graduates (BFWG)

They offer financial support to women of any nationality studying in higher education at British Universities. Applicants are given one-off financial support for either academic excellence (the BFWG Scholarship Trust Fund) or financial need (Funds for Women Graduates (FfWG)).

Colt Foundation Fellowships

They offer funding for three years to enable students to study for a PhD in occupational or environmental health at a UK university. They award up to four fellowships each year.

FINCAD Women in Finance Scholarship

This scholarship is aimed at encouraging and supporting talented women in the field of finance. Each year an award of US$20,000 is given to one eligible woman to help support graduate-level studies in Finance.

Gilchrist Educational Trust

The trust provides grants to individuals who are facing financial difficulties which may prevent them from completing their degree (applicants will normally be in the last year of the course). Or they provide travel grants for students who are required to spend a short period studying in another country as part f their degree.

Google Europe Students with Disabilities Scholarship

This scholarship supports university students with disabilities who are studying computer science, computer engineering, informatics, or a closely related technical field. Applicants must intend to be enrolled in or accepted as a student in a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD program at an accredited university in Europe or Israel.

Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP)

The program is open to students applying to a Master’s degree program in a development-related topic. Applicants must be a citizen of a developing country with relevant professional experience and a history of supporting their countries’ development efforts. 

JMK Women in Business Scholarship

They help women pursue Master's degrees in business management.

Linnean Society of London

They offer awards and grants to promote the study of biological sciences.

They offer ‘Postgrad Solutions Study Bursaries’ worth £500 towards your upcoming postgraduate studies. These are open to postgraduates from anywhere in the world.

Research and Development Management (RADMA)

They provide funding for doctoral studies and postgraduate student research support.

The Rotary Foundation

The Foundation offer scholarships to graduates studying abroad in one of their six causes: promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, saving mothers and children, supporting education and growing local economies.

Royal Geographical Society with IBG

The Society offers grants to support geographical research for Master's and research students. The grants are available for: desk-based research, fieldwork and expeditions, research into teaching and learning, developing teaching resources, and for international conference attendance.

Sir Richard Stapley Educational Trust

They offer grants to students who have been accepted on or are applying for a Master’s or Doctoral degree in any subject.

Thouron Award

They award four to six graduating seniors, recent graduates, professional students, or graduate students from the University of Pennsylvania. The award covers full tuition and fees for up to two years at any degree-granting programme in the UK.

UK and Europe

Anglo-Danish Society Scholarships

These scholarships are partial awards for Danish graduates who are going to study a postgraduate degree in the UK. There are no restrictions as to the subject of study.


The German Academic Exchange Service, or DAAD, offers a wide range of scholarships to German students who are wanting to study abroad. They have a scholarship search/database and a scholarship guide (a scholarship database of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF))

Director IB Henrik’s Fund

They support students who have a bachelor's degree from a Danish university or higher education institution and wish to obtain a Master's degree abroad.

Herbert Smith Freehills Entente Cordiale scholarships

They support one year of full-time postgraduate study in a British university.


This award is for students who have taken an IELTS test at a British Council centre in Germany. The award is worth between £3,000 up to £10,000.

Jansons Scholarships

These scholarships help fund study abroad for Norwegian students for up to one year.


They are a Norwegian student loan and grant-awarding body that supports Norwegian students to study overseas.

Marius Jakulis Jason Foundation

The foundation provides grants for Master’s studies at the world’s best universities. The recipient of the grant commits to working in Lithuania for an agreed period of time after finishing the studies.

St Matthias Trust

The Trust provides scholarships towards study/research that will contribute to the work of the Church of England.

World Wide Studies Grants

They offer support for Ukrainian citizens aged 35 or under to get a Master's Degree at the world's best universities.


Canon Collins Trust

The trust nominate 14 individuals for fully-funded Commonwealth Scholarships for Master’s or PhD study at any UK university.

Gordon Memorial College Trust Fund

They primarily fund Sudanese/South Sudanese individuals who are looking to conduct postgraduate study that will ultimately benefit their home country.

Qalaa Holdings Scholarship Foundation

They grant academic scholarships for talented and promising young Egyptian men and women to pursue Master’s degrees abroad in all fields of study.


Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR)

They provide scholarships for students from Singapore pursuing their passion in science at universities overseas.

Bangkok Bank

They provide scholarships to Thai students pursuing a Master’s degree.

British Lebanese Association

The Association provides fully-funded scholarships for Master’s level courses, in subjects they consider to be of the widest and most lasting benefit to Lebanon’s development.

Charles Wallace Trusts

These are for nationals of Bangladesh, Burma/Myanmar, India and Pakistan to assist them in obtaining education and professional development in the UK.

Great Britain–China Educational Trust

The Trust makes awards of up to £3,000 for Chinese students studying a PhD in the UK.

Indian Department of Education

They offer funding for Indian students studying abroad.

J.N. Tata Endowment awards

They provide Indian students with loan scholarships for higher studies.

King Abdullah Scholarships Program

The Program provides opportunities for Saudi citizens to pursue graduate university education overseas.

Lebanese International Finance Executives (LIFE) Scholarship

This is open to the best and brightest Lebanese students in financial need so they can pursue their academic aspirations in the field of economics, finance, law or STEM.

Narotam Sekhsaria PG Scholarship

They offer full and part scholarships as interest-free loans for Indian nationals pursuing postgraduate studies.

Oxford and Cambridge Society of India (OCSI) Scholarships

These are part-cost awards for graduate study and research in any subject available at the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford. The scholarships are for students who are ordinarily resident in India.

Regeneration Center of Thailand

They offer a $1000 USD prize to the winner of an essay contest. The scholarship is for motivated graduate science, medical or biology students of ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) heritage.

Singapore Public Service Commission Master’s Scholarships

These are offered to Singapore citizens who wish to study from a diverse range of courses relevant to the Public Service.

Tan Kah Kee Foundation

The Foundation offers three postgraduate scholarships for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents (PRs) pursuing their full-time PhD or Master’s degrees.


Banking & Financial Services Law Association

They offer scholarship to citizens and permanent residents of Australia and New Zealand studying post-graduate banking, financial services or insolvency law, or a related field of law.

General Sir John Monash Foundation

The Foundation provides scholarships for Australian citizens who are planning to undertake postgraduate study overseas. The scholarships are not limited by age, academic field of study or choice of overseas university.

Gowrie Bursary

The Bursary is managed by the Australian National University. It is available to Australian citizens who undertaking a graduate research program at any Australian or international university. Preference is given to past and present members of the Australian Armed Forces and their lineal descendants.

North America

Benjamin A Gilman International Scholarship Program

The Program enables American students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad.

Canadian Centennial Scholarship Fund

The Fund helps outstanding students from across Canada who are already enrolled in postgraduate programmes at UK universities. Awards are granted to scholars from a wide range of disciplines including science, engineering, social science and humanities as well as music, creative arts and design.

Fulbright Awards

These are for US graduate students, academics and professionals interested in studying, researching or teaching at higher education institutions in the UK.


They provide financial assistance for Mexican students to study full-time Master's courses abroad.

Law Foundation of British Columbia

They award up to six graduate fellowships of $17,000 CAD each year. The fellowships are for students pursuing full time graduate studies in law or a law-related area. Applicants must either be a resident of British Columbia, a graduate of a British Columbia law school or a member of the British Columbia Bar.

Mexican Embassy

They list scholarships offered by Mexican institutions for Mexican students to study in the UK.

Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)

They offer postgraduate scholarships for tenure at universities outside Canada. These scholarships are open to citizens and permanent residents of Canada as well as protected people under subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada).

Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC)

They offer graduate scholarships for citizens and permanent residents of Canada who wish to undertake study in the field of humanities or social sciences.

The WL Mackenzie King Memorial Scholarships

These Scholarships are available to graduates of Canadian universities who want to pursue graduate study in Canada or abroad.

Trudeau Foundation Scholarships

They offer scholarships to Canadian citizens studying at a Canadian or foreign institution. Applicants must be already accepted into or in year one or two of a full-time doctoral program. Their field of study must be broadly related to the humanities or human sciences of direct relevance to the future of Canada and relates to one of the Foundations four themes.

South America

Instituto Ling

They provide partial scholarships to Brazilians wishing to study for an MBA, MPA and LLM at a leading US or European universities.
