Postgraduate Study

To support your application, you'll be required to upload certain documents; for example, copies of degree transcripts and certificates, a research proposal, or statement of interest.

These will vary depending on the course you're applying for, so check the Course Directory to see which supporting documents are required for your course.

Your referees will also need to upload references to support your application.

Please note, all applicants must upload a CV (curriculum vitae, or résumé) via the Applicant Portal as part of their application for admission.

How to upload documents

Documents must be uploaded via the Applicant Portal, and must be in pdf format, under 2MB and not encrypted. If you are having difficulty uploading a document it may be encrypted or too large, so try photocopying it and uploading the copy instead.

Please note that if you send us hard-copies of documents before you have submitted your application, these cannot be processed and will be disposed of.

When to upload documents

You will not be able to submit your application until you have uploaded the required supporting documents. You may submit your application without the references, but your application will not be complete until your references have been provided, and it will be withdrawn when the course deadline has passed.

When do I need to provide my references?

You will be asked to provide details of your referees when completing your application in the Applicant Portal. Your referees will then need to provide your reference via the referee portal. These references must be provided before any course or funding deadline for your application to be considered. You can track the submission of references via the applicant portal, and you should remind your referees if your references are not submitted (or request a new referee). Before you submit your application make sure you have your referee’s consent to provide a reference for you.

When do I need to provide transcripts?

When completing your application you will be asked to upload copies of transcripts and certificates for each degree you have studied for, or are currently studying for, and you will not be able to submit your application without these.  If you are made an offer of admission you will be asked to send us original copies of these documents so that we verify their authenticity.

What if I am applying for more than one course?

If you apply for more than one course you will need to upload your documents separately for each course. If you nominate the same referee for multiple applications, they will need to submit a separate reference for each of the courses you are applying for.

Fraudulent documentation

The Postgraduate Admissions Office checks all application material and submitted documentation for evidence of admissions fraud.  If you become a student, you may be asked to provide an original version of any document uploaded during your application.

I applied to the University of Cambridge because of its reputation and to have the opportunity to study in such an intellectually stimulating environment.
