Ziyana Kotadia, (Aug. 26, 2026)As a 2024 graduate of the MPhil course at the University of Cambridge Centre for Gender Studies, and now returning as a PhD student, I’ve had the opportunity to appreciate how distinctive this programme is. Thinking with a gender lens across disciplines I would not have otherwise encountered - from law and economics to medicine and behavioural science - has built my capacity to apply this education in a range of sectors, including government, non-profit, and intergovernmental spaces.
Just as meaningful is the community the programme fostered: being surrounded by peer researchers whose expertise and perspectives stretched so widely has given me friendships and professional relationships that continue to challenge and nourish my learning. The programme’s flexibility and intellectual openness also allowed me to pursue creative and unconventional research methods that most other academic spaces would foreclose. The support and encouragement I receive from my professors at the Centre for Gender Studies makes it a uniquely generative environment in which to grow as a researcher.
Mariana Bernasconi Muñoz, (Aug. 26, 2026)My time at Cambridge completing the MPhil in Multidisciplinary Gender Studies was one of the most intellectually formative experiences of my life. The programme offered something rare: a rigorous research environment shaped by faculty who approach gender from genuinely diverse methodological and disciplinary traditions, combined with a detailed, engaged and generous supervisory relationship that allowed my own thinking to develop with real depth. My cohort brought knowledge from vastly different geographic and academic contexts, and learning alongside them expanded what I know and what I understand to be knowable and worth knowing. The MPhil gave me an expansive conceptual toolkit for thinking about gender. It is, in my experience, a programme for those who are driven by curiosity: a space that takes your questions seriously, challenges your assumptions, and leaves you genuinely hungry to keep learning.
Dr Sarah Knaus, (Aug. 26, 2026)The MPhil in Multi-Disciplinary Gender Studies fundamentally broadened my approach to science and has since helped me to pursue a unique academic path. What I appreciated most about the program was the fact that it truly embraced multi-disciplinarity. This was noticeable in the sheer breadth of subjects taught, in the choice of supervisors from across the university, and in the diversity of the cohort. Students were chosen from many different backgrounds, meaning we all had something to learn from each other….Coming from a STEM background myself, I found it incredibly valuable to learn to apply qualitative methods and critical theory, and I'm grateful to everyone at the centre for nurturing such a generous and welcoming learning environment.
