An application is only complete when:

  1. you have submitted your application and supporting documents via the Applicant Portal

  3. your referees have provided their references.

If you miss the deadlines specified in this section, you will not be able to submit your application.

Sample work submitted with the application should be assessed work completed for an earlier academic programme and a maximum of 3,500 words, in one document.

Selection Process

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Few applicants are offered early admission.  The majority of decisions are made after the December application deadline and applicants can expect to receive a decision by March at the latest. Successful applicants will be assigned a supervisor at the point of admission. 

The Centre welcomes and encourages early applications where possible.

Things You'll Need

In order to apply for this course you'll need to think about getting a few things ready before you apply.

  • Evidence of competence in English

  • Research proposal (M)
    You should provide a statement (approximately 750 words) of your research proposal, to include the research question, contribution, relevant literature, methodology and the proposed location of your research.

Gates Cambridge Scholarships

If you wish to be considered for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship you will also need to provide the following:

  • Gates Cambridge Reference  
  • Research Proposal (PhD applicants only)

How to Find a Supervisor

We ask applicants not to contact prospective supervisors. Successful applicants will be assigned a supervisor at the point of admission.
