Teaching
Students will take the following:
- Theory, Controversy and Methodology (MGS 1)
- Gender and Methods (MGS 2)
- Multi-disciplinary Text Seminar (MGS 3)
- Multi-disciplinary Gender Research Seminar
- Multi-disciplinary Speaker Programme
- Dissertation
Lectures and seminars will run for the first two terms (Michaelmas and Lent). The first 5,000-word essay is to be submitted at the beginning of Lent term and the second essay at the end of Lent. These essays are used to assess how well the student has understood the complex debates and theoretical ideas taught in MGS1, MGS2 and MGS3. Dissertations of 20,000 words are expected to be completed throughout the third term (Easter) and the vacation, under guidance from a supervisor.
Students are introduced to a wide range of disciplinary methods and research topics and are encouraged to debate ideas and concepts throughout the course. In addition, students will have the opportunity to interact with world-leading experts in gender theory hosted by the Centre throughout the year through the Diane Middlebrook and Carl Djerassi Visiting Professorship (Visiting Professors have included Sara Ahmed, Seyla Benhabib, Rosi Braidotti, Judith Butler, Cynthia Enloe, Nancy Fraser, Jack Halberstam, Patricia Hill Collins and Catharine McKinnon – please see the website for full details).
| One to one supervision | Each student is allocated a dissertation supervisor before the course begins. Students will receive a minimum of one supervision per term; appointments are arranged between the individual student and supervisor. |

Feedback
Feedback will be provided for each submitted essay and the dissertation. Students can expect to receive an online supervision feedback report each term.
Assessment
Thesis / Dissertation
20,000-word dissertation submitted in mid-June.
Essays
Two essays of 5,000 words each. The first of these is submitted at the beginning of Lent term and the second at the end of Lent.
Other
The examination may, at the discretion of the Examiners, include an oral examination on any or all of the work submitted for the examination and on the more general field of knowledge which it falls.
