The course is exclusively by research. The project and supervisors at both BAS and the University are usually determined during the application process.

Students can expect to receive an online feedback report each term.
Assessment
Thesis / Dissertation
Assessment is by submission of a thesis and an oral examination on the subject of the thesis. The length and stylistic requirement of the thesis is prescribed by the Degree Committee of the University department in which you are registered, and can be found on the Cambridge Students website.
Other
All PhD students are probationary in the first year and progression to the second year (and registration for the PhD) depends on a successful first-year review. The form of the review is specified by the Degree Committee of the University department in which you are registered.
