Postgraduate Study

I chose to do a PhD at the BSU because of its strong reputation for high-quality research in biostatistics. My project required a lot of computation, so I definitely appreciated the excellent computing facilities and very helpful computing staff. I also found the Unit to be a fantastic place to study with very friendly people and a lot of opportunities to present and discuss work. In fact I liked it so much that I stayed on to do a postdoc!

The MRC Biostatistics Unit provided me with an excellent education and a very friendly and supportive working environment.  My supervisors, advisors and programme leader always had time for me when I needed their input and provided interesting discussions throughout my PhD.  The BSU gave me so many opportunities. During my PhD, I provided statistical support to clinical researchers, worked on projects outside my PhD, published my research and presented at national and international conferences.  I would highly recommend doing a PhD at the Unit!

I chose to do my PhD at the BSU because of its exciting research programmes, as well as its excellent reputation. The BSU is a friendly, supportive community in which you not only become an expert in your field, but learn a lot more along the way from other members. As well as a great place to do research, being a PhD student at the BSU provides so many other opportunities. During my studies I supervised undergraduate mathematics students, worked with Cancer Research UK, presented my research at national and international conferences. As for post-PhD, you’ll never be short of career options, and most alumni go on to excellent jobs in academia, the pharmaceutical industry, or finance. In summary, the BSU is a fantastic place to do your PhD, and will provide you with so much more than a qualification
