Postgraduate Admissions

Developing a PhD within the German Section at the University of Cambridge was a challenging and exciting journey.  Cambridge's supervision system is unique in its personal approach, fostering rich conversations and support whenever one needs it. Both the department and university at large offer unique opportunities to get in touch and collaborate with some of the most exciting scholars and practitioners in the world. Right after finishing the PhD, I took on a position as a research associate in a newly founded museum in Berlin.

Rafael (March 2019)

The German Section at Cambridge University provided me with a supportive and stimulating environment for the duration of my PhD. The Section has a rich intellectual life, with a large cohort of research students, an active graduate seminar and a varied calendar of research events, and I found it to be a warm and inclusive community. Graduate students are also able to benefit from the Section’s links to universities in Berlin and Chicago and I spent several terms researching abroad. Since completing my PhD I have held two postdoctoral scholarships, in Berlin and in Cambridge, and I am about to begin an early career fellowship at Durham University. These opportunities were made possible by the outstanding mentorship and support I received at Cambridge.
