Postgraduate Study

Expected Academic Standard

Applicants for this course should have achieved a Masters (Merit).

If your degree is not from the UK, please check International Qualifications to find the equivalent in your country.

Candidates for the PhD are expected to hold a master's degree in a subject relevant to the intended topic of study with 70% overall and in the dissertation.

Applicants should also hold a high upper second-class degree from a UK University (usually 67%) or international equivalent as set by the University Postgraduate Admissions Office.

Candidates will normally be expected to have taken a substantial number of history courses at the university level and have a sound background in the period covered by the course.

The Faculty may require an applicant without a masters to successfully complete one of its MPhil courses prior to applying for the PhD program.

Each application is considered on a case-by-case basis.
