Postgraduate Study

Teaching

This course is taught through a combination of seminars, workshops and student presentations. Self-directed study includes pre-session readings, preparation for presentations, and practical research activities.

All students also attend educational research methods sessions as part of the Research Methods strand. The course takes two years of study.

One to one supervision

4.5 hours per year (9 in total)

Seminars & classes

The course involves 72 hours of face-to-face teaching over two years. This is made up of small group seminars. Teaching sessions take place in the Faculty, once a week (on Wednesday afternoons from 2pm) in the Michaelmas and Lent terms. There is only a small amount of teaching in the Easter term.

Feedback

Throughout the programme, written work is submitted and feedback is provided. Informally, feedback is also provided through regular supervisions. At the end of each term, supervisors write an online report which can be viewed by the student via the Postgraduate Feedback and Reporting System.

Assessment

Thesis / Dissertation

The thesis is up to 15,000 words in length and submitted in July.

The examination shall include an oral examination on the dissertation and the assessments and on the general field of knowledge within which they fall, save that the Examiners may, at their discretion, waive the requirement for an oral examination

Other

Assessments will be through a range of formats which may include coursework, written and oral examinations, posters, presentations and projects.
