Teaching
Students are strongly encouraged to attend the online preparatory course in Mathematics and Statistics in September.
Each student will take 7 compulsory modules, two optional modules and write a dissertation of up to 10,000 words. The modules are a mixture of 18, 24 or 27 hours of lectures, supplemented by classes in the compulsory modules.
Part-time study is delivered at 0.5 FTE (full-time equivalent).
One to one supervision | 2 hours of individual supervision for the dissertation component. The University of Cambridge publishes an annual Code of Practice which sets out the University’s expectations regarding supervision. |
---|---|
Seminars & classes | For full time students there will be at least 10 - 14 hours of classes per term for core modules, this will be reduced proportionately for part time students. |
Lectures | The total number of lecture hours for the course is 159 hours per year. The online preparatory course consists of an additional 51 hours of lecture time. |
Taught/Research Balance | Predominantly Taught |
Feedback
There is a test on the material covered in the preparatory course which is marked on a pass/fail basis. The test is formative and does not contribute to the overall mark for the MPhil, but failing this preparatory course will indicate that a student will need to improve their mathematical and statistical skills to cope with the main part of the course.
There are opportunities to practice exams and view solutions from past papers which will be available on our virtual learning environment.
Classes in problem sets take place for compulsory modules.
Each student receives individual supervision for the dissertation component.
