Postgraduate Study

Apply using the Applicant Portal

The Apply Now button on the right will take you to the Applicant Portal. There, you can create and submit your application and supporting documents, and you can also request your references.

An application is only complete when:

  1. you have submitted your application and supporting documents via the Applicant Portal
  2. you have paid the application fee if applicable. For further information on application fees, and which courses require an application fee, see here.
  3. your referees have provided their references.

If you miss the deadlines specified in this section, you will not be able to submit your application.

If you wish to be considered for the University's postgraduate funding competition, you must adhere to the funding application deadline (see sidebar on right).

You must complete the University's online application form by the closing date, via the Applicant Portal.

You must secure the support of a supervisor within a laboratory in the Department of Haematology before your application will be considered. A list of supervisors in the Department of Haematology can be found at https://www.haem.cam.ac.uk/staff/senior-staff/. Please contact your preferred supervisor(s) to discuss your potential supervision, proposed research project and funding options, which should then be used to write your formal application.

NOTE: Before submitting your application, please check if your proposed supervisor is also a member of the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute (CSCI) - https://www.stemcells.cam.ac.uk/people/pi. If they are, please submit your application to the 'MPhil in Stem Cell Biology' instead (https://www.postgraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/courses/directory/blscmpdsc). Applications to supervisors not in the CSCI should continue to be submitted to the 'MPhil in Haematology'.

This course is part of a scheme within the Postgraduate School of Life Sciences which enables three applications to be made with payment of a single application fee. A list of other eligible courses and further information can be found here.

Selection Process

Applications for funding are assessed following the funding deadline in December. Applicants who apply by this deadline can usually expect to receive a decision on their admission to the Department by February, and funding awards are then announced by Cambridge funders from March onwards.

All other applications (not being considered for funding) are considered as they are received (rolling admissions).

You are required to discuss your application and funding options with potential supervisors prior to submitting an application.  Applications with no named supervisor will not be considered.

Applicants should expect to receive an update on their application within three weeks following submission of their completed application and supporting documents (this includes references).

How to Find a Supervisor

You must secure the support of a supervisor within a laboratory before submitting an application.  A list of supervisors in the Department of Haematology can be found at https://www.haem.cam.ac.uk/staff/senior-staff/ so please contact them directly and plenty of time in advance of your deadline(s). You must include the named supervisor(s) on your application form as we do not assign supervisors. You may still name a supervisor on your application if the deadline is approaching and you have not yet heard back from them - in this case the application will still be reviewed by the proposed supervisor and the Department.

Once you have had contact with a potential supervisor and been advised by them to make a formal application, you can submit your application via the online Applicant Portal by the relevant deadline.
