Postgraduate Study

It is through the MPhil in Muslim-Jewish Relations that I became an academic. With fascinating modules taught by world-leading scholars, I was equipped with both the methodological tools and the knowledge needed to conduct innovative research and situate it within the broader field. In the turbulent times in which we live, the Woolf Institute represented an anchor of stability. Being part of its community helped me to keep hope in the possibility of a brighter future for Muslim-Jewish relations, and in the vital role that history, anthropology, and literature can play in identifying pathways toward interfaith coexistence.

Noam Perl Treves (April 10, 2025)

My MPhil experience was fantastic. Written assessments and presentation feedback at FAMES greatly helped me to visualise my project. Each coursemate had their unique personality and skills, and this made for brilliant classroom discussions, and even more brilliant friendships. The Woolf Institute is a great place to meet like-minded academics, most of whom are post-doctoral scholars. This makes Woolf a fantastic place to develop as an academic. I was very fortunate to benefit from both FAMES and Woolf during my studies.

Mohammed I Ahmed (April 13, 2021)

The MPhil was an enriching, challenging and eye-opening experience that allowed me to connect with students from around the world on a diverse range of subjects related to Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. I was able to develop and refine my writing and presentation skills while constructively debating with and learning from those around me. In addition, the support of the faculty made a very positive contribution to my overall Cambridge experience.
