The Apply Now button on the right will take you to the Applicant Portal. There, you can create and submit your application and supporting documents, and you can also request your references.

An application is only complete when:

  1. you have submitted your application and supporting documents via the Applicant Portal
  2. you have paid the application fee if applicable. For further information on application fees, and which courses require an application fee, see here.
  3. your referees have provided their references.

If you miss the deadlines specified in this section, you will not be able to submit your application.

Selection Process

Successful applicants are usually invited to interview, in which you will be asked to reflect on your research proposal, your design portfolio, and other aspects related to current architectural discours relevant to your work.  

It should be noted that interviews for this programme will usually take place from December/January of the intake year.

Things You'll Need

In order to apply for this course you'll need to think about getting a few things ready before you apply.

  • Two academic references  
  • Transcript  
  • CV/resume
  • Evidence of competence in English  
    If required - you can check using our tool
  • Portfolio
    An extract from your design portfolio is required. PLEASE DO NOT SEND A HARD-COPY OF YOUR PORTFOLIO OR A WEBLINK TO A LARGER BODY OF WORK - we can only assess portfolios uploaded via the applicant portal and we will disregard additional material. If invited to interview an applicant will be required to submit a full Portfolio.
  • Research proposal (M)
    The Research Proposal should be between 1,000 - 1,500 words. This should consist of a carefully researched topic of relevance to an area of academic discourse, research questions, a literature review, a statement on design approach, and key references.
  • Sample of work (1)
    The Sample of Work could be a journal publication or a chapter from an undergraduate dissertation. It is required to be well written with references and clear argumentation.

Gates Cambridge Scholarships

If you wish to be considered for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship you will also need to provide the following:

  • Gates Cambridge Reference  
  • Research Proposal (PhD applicants only)

How to Find a Supervisor

Those students who are completing the Cambridge BA(Hons) Architecture course  will need to find a suitable supervisor, and may email graduate.admin@aha.cam.ac.uk for a current list of available supervisors.

Applicants applying from outside Cambridge University will not need to find a suitable supervisor, but will be matched to a supervisor after application.
