Apply using the Applicant Portal
The Apply Now button on the right will take you to the Applicant Portal, where you can create and submit your application and supporting documents, and request references.
An application is only complete when:
- you have submitted your application and supporting documents via the Applicant Portal
- you have paid the £65 application fee
- your referees have provided their references.
If you miss the deadlines specified in this section, you will not be able to submit your application.
Applicants must submit a preliminary enquiry form to the Centre Administrator at the University of Cambridge Centre for Gender Studies before application. Visit the How to Apply page on the Centre website for more information.
The Centre will provide applicants with information about how to secure the support of a prospective supervisor for their research proposal. Please do not contact potential supervisors directly.
Selection Process
Applications are considered as they are received (rolling admissions). Applicants will need to secure the support of a supervisor before they can be admitted.
Please be aware that places on the PhD in Multi-disciplinary Gender Studies are limited and that the course may fill up before the published deadline. The Centre welcomes and encourages early applications where possible.

Things You'll Need
In order to apply for this course you'll need to think about getting a few things ready before you apply.
- Two academic references
- Transcript
- CV/resume
- Evidence of competence in English

You should include a statement (approximately 3,000 words) of your research proposal, including aims and methods, sources and the location of the proposed research. You should explain why the topic is important and innovative and what existing literature it contributes to. Include with your statement a listing of specific resource needs for your research (such as travel budget, fieldwork etc) and an outline of any experience (including employment and nonacademic experience) relevant to your application.
