Apply using the Applicant Portal
The Apply Now button on the right will take you to the Applicant Portal, where you can create and submit your application and supporting documents, and request references.
An application is only complete when:
- you have submitted your application and supporting documents via the Applicant Portal
- you have paid the £60 application fee
- your referees have provided their references.
If you miss the deadlines specified in this section, you will not be able to submit your application.
Selection Process
Applications for the PhD in Archaeology are considered on a rolling basis; applicants will receive decisions throughout the period the admissions window is open. Applicants are encouraged to apply early, as programmes have a limited number of places each year, and are particularly advised to note relevant funding deadlines when making their application. Interviews will be arranged on an individual basis and may be via Skype or by telephone.

Things You'll Need
In order to apply for this course you'll need to think about getting a few things ready before you apply.
- Two academic references
- Transcript
- CV/resume
- Evidence of competence in English

- Research proposal
The research proposal should be approximately 2000 words in length and should provide an outline of the applicant’s research question and a brief description of the data set and methodology to be used. Applicants must contact a potential supervisor to discuss the research proposal prior to submitting an application. - Sample of work (max. 1)
Applicants should submit a sample of written academic work of c. 2000 words, preferably one submitted as assessed coursework in a previous degree.
