Postgraduate Study

Teaching

The MAcc programme consists of the following: formal and informal teaching by academic faculty and leading practitioner experts on a series of core courses; a range of electives covering the main areas of accounting, data analytics, and leadership/client-engagement; projects which enable the integration of theory and practice; a Speaker Series seminar; and professional development and course activities.

One to one supervision

Supervision is offered for group and individual projects. Supervisors will provide general academic advice to students, and subject-specific advice relating to the projects; students and supervisors normally meet about once a month to discuss progress, but meetings may be more or less frequent depending on the project’s progression.

Seminars & classes

Each classroom session will build on knowledge that students acquire ex ante, via preparing pre-assigned material (eg a book chapter or web lecture) and a pre-assigned deliverable, which will serve as the focal in-class discussion vehicle. This deliverable may be, for example, a case, a paper, or computer program. Students may prepare for their assignment in groups or individually. Assignments and topics will be chosen for their real-world applicability and their inherent real-world ambiguity.

Lectures

Students will attend lectures during their residential periods on campus. During a typical weekend session, students will attend an average of 15 hours, as well as regular guest speaker events, though this varies depending on the term and the choice of modules.

Practicals

Workshops are delivered on some courses by faculty and teaching assistants from within the accounting subject group.

Feedback

Students receive qualitative and quantitative feedback on assessments.
