Apply using the Applicant Portal

The Apply Now button on the right will take you to the Applicant Portal. There, you can create and submit your application and supporting documents, and you can also request your references.

An application is only complete when:

  1. you have submitted your application and supporting documents via the Applicant Portal
  2. you have paid the application fee if applicable. For further information on application fees, and which courses require an application fee, see here.
  3. your referees have provided their references.

Applicants must submit the following documents with their application:

Official undergraduate degree transcripts

Undergraduate degree Certificate

Other professional or academic qualifications

Language certificate (where required)

Curriculum Vitae (CV)

2 References (preferably academic references, but employer references can also be accepted if your last engagement with academic study was a long time ago)

A Research Proposal (up to 500 words maximum), outlining which potential topic you would hope to undertake for your dissertation in the second year of the course.

Personal Statement 500-600 words (motivation for applying for the course and a summary of most relevant experience or interest in relation to AI Ethics & Society)

Sample of work *

* Applicants should provide a writing sample of no more than 5,000 words to demonstrate ability to write for a professional, academic or public audience on any topic (topics related to AI and/or ethics are especially encouraged). This might be a news article, professional report, academic paper, internal report, blog post or other form of published or unpublished written communication. 

Selection Process

Applications will be considered in two gathered fields, one consisting of applications received by Monday 17 November 2025, and one consisting of remaining applications that are submitted by 26 February 2026.

Interviews for the two gathered fields will be carried out in November/December 2025, and March/April 2026 respectively, with conditional offers being made from January and May 2026 respectively.

Interviews will be held online.

Gates Cambridge Scholarships

If you wish to be considered for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship you will also need to provide the following:

  • Gates Cambridge Reference
  • Research Proposal (PhD applicants only)

How to Find a Supervisor

Course staff arrange dissertation supervisors for all students in Year 1, so it is not necessary to find a supervisor before application.
