Expected Academic Standard
Applicants for this course should have achieved a UK Masters (Distinction).
If your degree is not from the UK, please check International Qualifications to find the equivalent in your country.
A master's or another research degree in a relevant subject is essential. Students applying from external institutions who are studying for or already hold a master's qualification are expected to achieve the equivalent of High pass or Distinction across their course of study – conditions will be set on a case-by-case basis according to the assessment criteria used at each institution. Students already at Cambridge applying to continue from the MPhil to the PhD should have attained, or be expecting to obtain, a minimum overall mark of 73% per cent (with at least 75% in their dissertation).
Evidence of interest in, or commitment to, Latin America is expected. Evidence of interest in, or commitment to, Latin America is expected and will typically be assessed through the application form, where applicants can outline their motivation for pursuing the MPhil program. This interest may be also demonstrated in various ways, including prior academic work on Latin America, the study of Spanish or Portuguese language or culture, relevant qualifications, or personal background. The academic panel may consider these and other factors on a case-by-case basis, and does not limit the evidence of interest to a fixed set of criteria.
