Teaching
This course is exclusively by research.
One to one supervision | Each student is assigned a principal Supervisor and supervisory meetings are arranged by mutual agreement. The University of Cambridge publishes an annual Code of Practice which sets out the University's expectations regarding supervision. |

Seminars & classes | Students are strongly encouraged to participate in the Goldsmiths' Seminar Series, especially the lectures on topics related to their research interests. |
Lectures | There are no compulsory lecture courses associated with this course, but MPhil students are encouraged to attend undergraduate and postgraduate lecture courses (space permitting) that are relevant to their studies. |
Posters and Presentations | Students may optionally make a poster or deliver a short research presentation to a general departmental audience as part of the 'postgraduate seminar and poster day', which usually takes place towards the end of June each year. |
Taught/Research Balance | Entirely Research |
Feedback
Students can expect a formal discussion with their Supervisor and a written report (via the University's online system) on their progress at least once a term. Written feedback will be provided on drafts of the thesis.
Assessment
Thesis / Dissertation
Assessment is by submission of a thesis of not more than 15,000 words on a topic approved by the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Physics and Chemistry. The thesis is examined in an oral examination by two examiners appointed individually for each candidate.
