Funding Opportunities
Although there are no specific funding opportunities advertised for this course, the department participates in C-CLEAR (the Cambridge NERC Doctoral Training Partnership) and eligible applicants for the PhD in Earth Sciences will be considered for funding through that scheme. More information here.
Fees and Maintenance
Your Estimated Annual Commitment:
Component | Cost |
---|---|
University Composition Fee | £10,356 |
Maintenance | £19,000 |
Total Annual Commitment | £29,356 |
Students may have to bear additional costs in relation to PhD-associated fieldwork and/or research trips. These costs will be specific to the individual student and project. Where a funded PhD place has been offered by the department, allowance for most research costs will be included in the studentship awarded. In some cases, research costs for particular projects may be much higher, and in these cases, applicants should discuss any potential additional costs with their intended Supervisor prior to applying or accepting an offer.
Once students are in the department, there are limited departmental funds for which students can apply to cover such additional costs.
If you study part-time, the University Composition Fee will be 60% of the annual full-time fee for 5 years; or 75% of the annual full-time fee for 4 years. Guidance on calculation of your maintenance costs can be found here: Maintenance costs for part-time students | Postgraduate Study (cam.ac.uk)
