Apply using the Applicant Portal
The Apply Now button on the right will take you to the Applicant Portal. There, you can create and submit your application and supporting documents, and you can also request your references.
An application is only complete when:
- you have submitted your application and supporting documents via the Applicant Portal
- you have paid the application fee if applicable. For further information on application fees, and which courses require an application fee, see here.
- your referees have provided their references.

Selection Process
Applications are considered as a gathered field in two phases
Applicants who have applied before the December deadline (required to be considered for funding) and who pass the shortlisting process may be interviewed in the following January. Applicants who are not shortlisted for January interviews may be wait-listed for interview in the second phase in May.
Applicants who have applied after the December deadline (not applying for funding) and who pass the shortlisting process may be interviewed in the following May.
Interviews are usually by video-conference, and are conducted by two or three members of the course team. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified by email.

You should start preparing the things that you'll need when you apply. These will be mandatory, unless specifically flagged as optional.

Two referees willing to give you a reference
Either academic or professional – please see our References guidance for more information about which type you need. Your referees will need to have submitted their reference by the course deadline. - Transcript
- CV/resume
- Evidence of competence in English

Gates Cambridge Scholarships
If you wish to be considered for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship you will also need to provide the following:

How to Find a Supervisor
Applicants are not required to have identified a research supervisor at the time of application. However, candidates who have familiarised themselves with research in translational medicine in the department and have thought about how this intersects with their interests/career goals will perform better at interview. For example, applicants can identify 1-2 particular groups during interview and explain why they have identified them.
