Our postgraduate students have access to a shared working space with networked computing facilities. However, most of our students find it useful to work with their own laptops.
Our libraries are excellent, but some students may wish to purchase books for their own use. Some research projects will require one or more of the following: fieldwork, visits and research overseas, specialist software, equipment and materials, the participation of (paid) volunteers. Sometimes these can add significant costs to the research.
The Faculty has some limited funds to support these needs. Some Sections in the Faculty may have additional funding. The Faculty strongly advises that students plan in advance for all necessary research funding, to the extent possible. If your project is dependent on the availability of such funds, you should discuss its viability in advance with your intended supervisor.
If you study part-time, the University Composition Fee will be 60% of the annual full-time fee for 5 years; or 75% of the annual full-time fee for 4 years. Guidance on calculation of your maintenance costs can be found here: Maintenance costs for part-time students | Postgraduate Study (cam.ac.uk)
