Postgraduate Study

The MPhil in Geography has been a transformative experience, offering a multitude of learning opportunities and unveiling a new realm of research. Working on my chosen topic alongside esteemed scholars in my field has been nothing short of remarkable. The richness of this experience was further enhanced by collaborating with colleagues from diverse backgrounds across the globe, whose varied perspectives provided invaluable insights into addressing housing challenges in my home country.

One of the highlights of my MPhil journey was the privilege of undertaking my project under the expert guidance of a supervisor who not only offered invaluable research support but also played a pivotal role in shaping my trajectory as an emerging researcher. Her mentorship has been instrumental in my growth and development, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn from her expertise.

Overall, my MPhil year has been a rewarding and enriching experience, laying a solid foundation for my future endeavours in academia and beyond.

Nonhlanhla Mathibela (April 2024)

The MPhil in Geography is an ideal starting point for postgraduate research. Centred around the thesis right from the very beginning of the programme, you are given the time and space to grow as a researcher with opportunities for skills and methods training suited to your specific area of interest. You are positioned in a vibrant community of Geographers in the cohort and across the Department which allows you to learn from others across the full extent of Geographical scholarship.

Anna Gardner (April 2024)

I am incredibly grateful for my experiences in the MPhil in Geography programme. I worked in industry immediately following my undergraduate degree in engineering, and was looking for a master’s programme that was hands-on and research-heavy. With no set lesson requirements, this was the perfect programme for me as I was able to spend the entire year developing and undertaking my own research project. The opportunity confirmed my interest in academia, my passion for my research area, and inspired me to continue my studies at Cambridge now as a PhD student. The programme welcomes people from all disciplinary backgrounds and is the ideal course for research-driven individuals excited to work with dedicated and curious scholars.
