Teaching
The taught components of the PREMIA MPhil are designed to provide a comprehensive, interdisciplinary foundation in the physics, mathematics, computation, and clinical applications of medical imaging and artificial intelligence.
The taught provision consists of seven Core modules in total:
Six Lecture-Based Modules: The taught modules are: Fundamental Principles of Medical Imaging, Medical Image Reconstruction, Machine Learning Fundamentals for Medical Imaging, Quantitative Medical Image Analysis, Applications of Precision Medical Imaging, and Deployment of Medical Imaging AI. Each of these modules relies on interactive lectures, paired with weekly supervisions that provide scientific and computing exercises.
One Practical-Based Module (Medical Imaging Lab): This module provides weekly, hands-on, small-group experience with state-of-the-art medical imaging equipment (such as MRI, CT, and ultrasound) located at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus or other university facilities in Cambridge.
During the final Term, students undertake a dedicated research project. This will allow students to apply their newly acquired skills in imaging physics, image processing, and artificial intelligence to real-world healthcare challenges.
| One to one supervision |
Each student will be allocated a progress supervisor who will meet with them termly to review overall academic progress and provide ongoing support. Students will also have a dedicated research project supervisor who provides regular guidance during the Easter Term. The University of Cambridge publishes an annual Code of Practice Code of Practice for taught Master's students | Cambridge students which sets out the University’s expectations regarding supervision. |

| Seminars & classes |
There is a one-hour, unassessed weekly seminar with guest lecturers throughout all three terms. |

Placements
The research project element of the course may be undertaken in a number of scientific institutions, within the University, Cambridge University Hospitals and Cambridge Biomedical Campus, subject to approvals.
Feedback
Each student will be assigned a primary, progress, and research project supervisor, which may be the same individual. The primary supervisor will be a course director. The progress supervisor will be a member of staff who will meet with the student termly to discuss progress and provide feedback and support, as required. The research supervisor will meet with the student regularly during the research portion of their course.
The University of Cambridge publishes an annual Code of Practice for taught Master's students | Cambridge students which sets out the University’s expectations regarding supervision. Students are given feedback on the assessments conducted at the end of each term.
Assessment
Thesis / Dissertation
Students will produce a research dissertation of up to 10,000 words.
Essays
One written report per each of two taught terms, normally not more than 3,500 words.
Practical assessment
Two presentations, consisting of one oral and one poster presentation.
Other
One final oral examination on the taught material.
