As a student who was unable to gain much laboratory research experience because of COVID within my undergraduate degree, and knowing I wanted to pursue postgraduate research in Neuroscience, the Clinical Neurosciences MPhil has been very informative on whether I want to commit to a PhD and continue in this industry and academic environment. I have been able to gain focused time in the lab due to the degree’s wholly hands-on research-based set-up and have had opportunities through the University to cater to my aspirations to teach as a postgraduate student, allowing for a fulfilling and versatile postgraduate experience. There is a heavily collaborative and supportive environment within the Department, where students and post-docs within and outside your lab are willing to assist and advice as needed, this has especially made it easy to make fast-friends and colleagues, and improve scientific judgement as well! I think this degree is an accurate taster to PhD life and a strong qualification on its own, and is well worth the 12 months.

I had a fulfilling and fruitful experience completing my MPhil with the Clinical Neurosciences department. I was provided with the autonomy to initiate the experiments and meet my research goals. At the same time, I was provided with excellent guidance from my supervisors Dr. Damiano Barone and Prof. George Malliaras to ensure that I remained on the right track. Most importantly, Cambridge attracted like-minded individuals who were all driven to produce cutting-edge research and I learnt a lot from the friends I made during my degree.
