Most of our students find it useful to work with a laptop.
Whilst our libraries have a wide repository of resources, some students prefer to purchase books for their own use. They may also choose to undertake research which necessitates specialist equipment and materials.
The department advocates that students plan for research for which they can arrange funding. Fieldwork, visits, and research which take(s) place overseas can be costly. The University and many of its Colleges offer small bursaries for postgraduate students to give papers at conferences and go on field trips. Bursaries are awarded on a competitive basis and may not cover the total cost of the trip.
If you study part-time, the University Composition Fee will be 60% of the annual full-time fee for 5 years; or 75% of the annual full-time fee for 4 years. Guidance on calculation of your maintenance costs can be found here: Maintenance costs for part-time students | Postgraduate Study (cam.ac.uk)
