This is important as the information that you provide will be used by the Postgraduate Admissions Office to prepare your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), which is required to complete your visa application form.

First name / Given name

If you have a passport, the first/given name that you provide in your application should match the first/given name in your passport.

We recognise that naming customs across the world vary, but it is important that you follow the set format required by the University. This matches the format that is used by UK Visas and Immigration.

Last name / Family name

If you have a passport, the last/family name that you provide in your application should match the last/family name in your passport.

We recognise that naming customs across the world vary, but it is important that you follow the set format required by the University. This matches the format that is used by UK Visas and Immigration.

If you do not have a surname, please enter a hyphen ('-') into this field.

Preferred name

If the name you are commonly known by is different to the name provided in this section and you would like to be identified as such throughout communications, use this field to state your preferred name.

Have you applied previously to the University of Cambridge under a different name?

If you have applied to the University of Cambridge under a different name previously, regardless of level of qualification applied for, please click 'Yes' and provide us with details of the name used previously.

This information is required to ensure that your student record is correct.

Date of birth

Information collected on date of birth is used for the additional purpose of deriving age at admission, for anonymous statistical reporting to ensure our Equal Opportunities and Widening Participation policies are working, and for our statutory returns to the Higher Education Statistics Agency. Where applicable, your date of birth may additionally be used by our internal funding bodies and external funding partners to determine your eligibility for any funding opportunities that are restricted or prioritised based on the characteristic of age.

Applicants must be aged 16 years or older on the 1st day of the first year of their proposed course. Applicants who do meet this criteria cannot apply.
