Postgraduate Admissions

Expected Academic Standard

Applicants for this course should have achieved a UK High II.i Honours Degree.

If your degree is not from the UK, please check International Qualifications to find the equivalent in your country.

Degree must be in a relevant discipline, with sufficient elements of physics, chemistry, materials or engineering sciences.

Although the minimum requirement for entry is a high II.i, most students who are shortlisted for interview and are offered admission on the NanoDTC have a (predicted) first class degree.

Most applicants who are offered admission have at least four years of training and some research experience in a relevant subject before they start the programme. Students considering applying during their 3rd year of undergraduate education must bear in mind that an additional year of work often allows for more mature discussions during interview, leading to greater chances of success.

The MRes may only be taken as part of the four-year MRes + PhD and may not be taken as a standalone one-year course.
