Postgraduate Admissions

Course closed:

Architecture and Urban Design is no longer accepting new applications.

Apply using the Applicant Portal

The Apply Now button on the right will take you to the Applicant Portal. There, you can create and submit your application and supporting documents, and you can also request your references.

An application is only complete when:

  1. you have submitted your application and supporting documents via the Applicant Portal
  2. you have paid the £70 application fee. Further information on application fees see here.
  3. your referees have provided their references.

If you miss the deadlines specified in this section, you will not be able to submit your application.

If you do meet the admissions requirements for the course you will then need to determine whether the design thesis you wish to produce can be hosted by the Department. We can host design theses which relate to explorations into the role of design in current environmental, socioeconomic and cultural debates. In each case, students are expected to develop projects that take a defined position in relation to these debates and test the implications of this position at a regional, institutional and building scale. Throughout the course, students are also expected to engage with relevant academic and professional experts, policymakers and prospective clients and to use the fieldwork period to examine the conditions that would impact the realisation of their projects on-site.

The first deadline for admissions, when the most if not all places will be filled, is in early January when applicants will also be considered for funding. Should any places remain available after this date, rolling admissions continues until the final deadline on February 10th.

Decisions are usually made in time to meet the funding nomination deadline. Please note that your admission is subject to final approval by the University's Graduate Admissions Office.

Selection Process

Should places remain available, applications received after the funding deadline are considered on a rolling basis until the final deadline on February 10th. Interviews for this programme will usually take place from January of the intake year.
